Mississippi Museum of Natural Science

We visited the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science today, which is only a couple of miles from our house. It's a nice museum inside a park, and includes a large aquarium exhibit and nature trails. They have a contest ending 2/1 for photos taken at the Museum. Here are some of the pictures I'm considering entering (amateur division, obviously!). I appreciate your input:

"Say cheese" - wildlife division (taken inside)

Cypress swamp (landscape division) - this was taken in color but we thought it was more striking in "filtered b&w" (via Picasa).

"Nature's pancakes" (plant division)

"Woodpecker home improvement" (landscape division I guess - doesn't really fit in any other category) - Does anyone else find this picture as funny/neat as I do?

No name for this one yet, but it's Scott's favorite so we'll definitely be entering it (taken inside).

Hope you're all having a great weekend!

I'd definitely be entering the filtered black & white of the cypress swamp, if I were you. That is a powerful shot to my eye. The "pancakes" also drew my attention and appreciation.

(Just to let you know, I received the gloves yesterday. Thank you so much for them and the seed. :) I've never grown four o'clocks and am looking forward to trying something new.)

Ginger --what cool pictures!! I think the black and white one is very interesting. Composition wise I really like the fungus growth on the tree. Looks like you had a great day. All are good pictures, it would be hard to choose...maybe you could make up aliases and enter all. :-D

They are all great! I love the B and W one, really cool. And the birdhouse is cute too. Good luck with all your entries!

They're all really good so it's hard to choose. I like the first alligator and the B&W swamp ones the best. And yes, that's a cool birdhouse!

These are great, Ginger! We are going to have to visit the museum soon.

I personally love "Nature's Pancakes", and they are all really good. Wow!

Hi Ginger, You are an excellent photographer. And what photos they are! Have fun entering the contest and please let us know what happens there. :-)

I really do prefer the black and white swamp photo. The color detracts from the subject, somehow...
Love the animal photos. Thank you for visiting me today!!

Thank y'all for your comments and compliments! I'm entering the first alligator ("say cheese!"), the b&w swamp (creatively named "cypress swamp in winter"), and the fungus on the tree ("fungi or flapjacks?"). I'll let you know what happens, but it was fun either way!

Ginger I think your photos are wonderful and I would have a hard job choosing which one to enter - glad you've already made the choice. All the best for the competition and thankyou for visiting my blog and leaving a comment. Look forward to getting to know you and your garden. Rosie

Ginger,
I got back from Belize yesterday. Took two days as our flight out of Miami was boarding when we got to Miami. Really like the gloves and cool garden tool. The four o'clock seeds, I have just the place to try them too! Thanks again!
