Unlike the veggies, the birds loved the snow, and were out in full force. Here is a chickadee:

I also saw an American cardinal, a redheaded woodpecker, 50 or so robins, some sparrows, and an unidentified dark grey bird. That made me feel a lot better about the veggies!

Seeing the garden die right before your eyes is so sad..but spring is close and it'll begin all over again...I enjoyed your photos so much...
Awww, that was pretty much my experience, too. All of my canna are sagging and brown and horrible as well as quite a few others. The canna are just the most sad because they had beautiful orange blooms Friday. I started seeing some birds at my front bird feeder Friday for the first time. I don't think they like the mix though, but I'm waiting for it to run out. There's always spring to look forward to, and there's lots of time to plot and scheme and start plants.

So sad looking! We missed the ice and snow. This morning was the coldest yet this year 28 degrees. I think our lima beans will be looking like that tomorrow.
I am so sorry you lost your veggies. I have not even been out to the vegetable garden, as I know that it looks just like yours. Freezing temps are one thing, low 20s are something altogether different.

Snow! They threatened us with it but we never received it. Areas further east of us got it though. At least you had the veggies into December!
Hi Ginger, your veggie patch is so neat and organized, I love it! The little bird are getting a real feast from your double decker feeder, love it with the snow on the roof. Fire in the furnace though, right? :-)

Goodness Ginger, it looks like you all got the snow that we didn't get! Sometimes those peppers can hang on through January if we don't get those hard freezes. At least you got a good last haul. I haven't gotten around to pulling out the dead stuff yet. Too much rain in the forecast (and too cold; I'm a wimp!).
I didn't really see many birds at all except those pesky little blackbirds.
That is quite the difference! The birds always help entertain me and get me through the non gardening months. Sounds like you had lots of activity!
Ginger, how fun to see the difference, indeed! I have the same thing going on at my place but 4degree weather has kept even the majority of birds away!
Winter is always rough on a garden. But spring will hopefully be here before we know it. And it won't be long at all before it's time to start seedlings again. I really hope I'm more organized in the garden this year...yours is beautiful!
