Groovy green beans

This is the first year I have grown green beans, and they are SO easy! I have them growing in one of our raised beds (the one Bilbo visited). Check out my first little harvest!
They have literally required no care, not even watering - thanks to the wet spring we've had! I did take care to not harvest them while the plants were wet, since that is supposed to spread disease.Exhibit B: cooked into a stir-fry with mushrooms and garlic, served with rice noodles and peanuts. (From Heidi Swanson's Cook 1.0 - my favorite vegetarian cookbook). YUM!

What are you harvesting these days?

I haven't even planted my green beans yet. We do have sugar snaps, but the monkeys eat them before I can have any. That recipe sounds amazing.

Whoohoo! Harvesting beans already! That is great. I haven't even put mine in the ground yet. That stir fry looks yummy too.

Debbi, Prairie Chicken and Heather - I took a risk and planted them early - it did (barely) freeze one time since then, but I covered the bed with a bed sheet and the beans survived!

The stir fry is great. Lots of flavor from peanut oil and red pepper flakes!

We haven't even planted beans yet. Just waiting out the weather--maybe this weekend. You have very delicious looking beans. Beans are the whole purpose of a vegetable garden--and as you say very easy. I've never not had beans planted somewhere.

My beans are just now growing so none for me yet but yours look delish!

I have several veggies planted but they are all too young at this point. Hopefully soon.

Great beans Ginger. I ended up over the years having Mexican bean beetles, so we quit growing beans. Now the trees are too big, not enough sun.
Am harvesting lettuce still--in window boxes on the deck in the sun.

Catherine- thanks! I planted them in mid March, so they took just under two months to mature. I knew it was early and I might lose them, but I had cabin fever!

Dirt Princess- Thanks girl! They were pretty yummy!

Mlc- I'm new to beans, but I'll be back. What kind do you plant?

Susie- the rest of my veggies are about 6 inches tall - LOL - I won't have any peppers or tomatoes for months!

Janet- interesting about the beetles. My lettuce went to flowering so I pulled it up. I LOVED it while it lasted - seems like you can especially taste the "fresh" on lettuce.

I hope to plant my beans this week. Slow going here in Seattle. I'm going to have to check out that cookbook, I need a new one and am (mostly) veggie. Hey, that's a great plate - is it vintage? Did you paint it?

Karen - thanks! it's Gail Pittman, "Tango" pattern - we got a whole bunch of that pottery instead of traditional china for our wedding. Gail Pittman recently stopped production of her retail line to focus on corporate opportunities, so I guess it's vintage now!
