La vie en rose

The first rose of 2009...
...but not the last! Check out all the buds! This rose came with the house and appears to be pretty old. It smells AMAZING and blooms on and off through spring and summer. I sidedress it with compost or manure every year or so, and prune it in January, and that's all the care it gets. What a payoff!

This is a lovely picture. It looks so velvety that the raindrops can't adhere themselves to it well.

I bet it does have a wonderful fragrance. When more appear I think I would cut a few for a little indoor bouquet.

Hope you have a great weekend Ginger. Try to stay dry!

Ok, ok. It took me a while to get to your blog. I have to say...I love it. I expect a picture of my Godson very soon. Nice post about the roses. Very pretty.

Susie - you have a good weekend too! I think the rain is moving out.

Expatriate - FINALLY!!! I will do a post about your "godson" this weekend, integrated with a gardening post, of course! You better come back and comment on it!

Great rose Ginger! Your title is what drew me...love the song. Have a Madeleine Peyroux version that I just love.

That is a beautiful rose. I have one left in my yard, kind of a rangy old wild rose bush (I think) that I will yard out of there next year. For now the goats think it's fun to eat.

Janet - I believe the first time I heard the song was on the Tony Bennett/kd lang collaboration. I love it, too.

Dave and Heather - thanks! I have one more, a much smaller one that is a deep pink. It came with the house, too, and is beautiful and fragrant -- but nothing compares to this red one! I may never buy another one because it couldn't possibly be as tough, beautiful and fragrant as this old variety!

Isn't it wonderful how a little love and tenderness can bring big rewards. This rose is wonderful. Keep giving it love and it will give you a fabulous display all summer.

Happy Spring!

Love the spring rose - it is lovely! I love the smell of oldfashioned roses - especially the ones that smell like green apples! Thanks for visiting my blog - use fresh bay like the dried leaf - it is wonderful! I too am anxious to try the chocolate pudding with bay - just sounds interesting!
